Fountaine Pajot 48: A Liveaboard Cruising Catamaran Evolved From the Tanna 47

The Fountaine Pajot 48 catamaran is the successor to the iconic and widely popular Tanna 47. Just like its well-known predecessor, the FP 48 hits the sweet spot for couples and families: large enough to live aboard comfortably for extended periods, yet small enough for effortless sailing and handling, even for smaller crews. The FP 48 follows the evolution of other new catamarans from Fountaine Pajot, including the New 41, New 44, and New 51, which is evident in the consistency of design elements throughout this catamaran range.

Spacious Layouts and Balanced Performance

At just under 49 feet, the FP 48 is larger than the Tanna 47, which measures about 46 feet in comparison. The FP 48 specs include a beam of 25.9 feet, an air draft of 73.2 feet, and a draft of 5.4 feet. The sail area is about 10% larger than on the previous model, and although it is a heavier boat, the deeper keel and new hull design will help maintain speed and performance under sail. Standard propulsion consists of twin 45 HP engines, with the option to upgrade to 80 HP. Both the fuel and water tanks hold 700 liters each, giving the yacht good autonomy for longer passages. The owner’s cabin in the FP 48 layout has an upgraded design with the bed facing the hull window for excellent views, and several cabin layouts, from 3 to 4 double cabins, are available depending on whether the yacht is used privately or for charter.

Outdoor Spaces That Take This Model to the Next Level

The exterior hulls have the same sleek appearance as the New 41 and New 44, two of the latest additions to the range. On deck, the FP 48 offers several exterior areas for relaxation and socializing. Among the highlights is a large forward cockpit with a table, beneath which is a storage locker for windlass, anchor, and anchor chain. The upper lounge area bears a resemblance to the New 44 model, except that it’s bigger. From here, the integrated solar panels are visible, which have become a staple in all Fountaine Pajot designs. The yacht can also be equipped with the ODSea+ system, a fully electric setup that includes lithium batteries and electric pod drives. The transom on board the FP 48 features an aft seat and an entrance to the owner’s cabin, a noticeable design upgrade from previous models.

Interiors Designed Around Life on Board

The cockpit and the salon merge seamlessly to create one spacious living area. Drawing from the Aura 51, the galley within the FP 48 interior features plenty of storage, an island that elegantly marks the transition from galley to cockpit, and the option of propane or electric cooking. The salon features a U-shaped settee with two seating options: it can either be configured like a lounge area with a coffee table or like a dining place with a dining table. A full-height fridge/freezer, which has been specifically requested by customers, is now also available.
