Bali Catsmart: smart, affordable & fun to sail

True to its name, this affordable 4-cabin catamaran has it all!

The competing shipyards of Catana and Bali were taken by surprise by the Bali Catsmart. No one was expecting them to come up with a 38′ catamaran, and even less so a boat selling for less than €500K…

The Bali Catsmart is a functional, comfortable, and well-designed yacht, despite being the smallest mass-produced catamaran available on the market.

What exactly do you want from a catamaran?

There are two main categories of answers to this question. Some want to have the comfort of a plush, floating second home. On mass-produced catamarans, at least, this comfort can come at a price; the lost feeling of sailing sensations and connection to the sea, which is essential to the joy of sailing a yacht for some sailors.

The second type of answer to the question of what people want from a catamaran focuses on the pleasure of helming a well-performing yacht, in the company of loved ones and at one with the outdoors. This enjoyment comes before the desire for unnecessary gadgets on a catamaran.

Bali has designed the Catsmart to satisfy the second category of catamaran enthusiasts. It is also to meet the needs of people who want to stay within a reasonable budget and are not prepared to invest as much as in one of these very large, fully-equipped catamarans. The Bali Catsmart thus represents a great compromise for sailing enthusiasts who sail in monohulls but who want more space and comfort without being at the helm of a heavy, floating campervan.

Bali Catsmart, a yacht first and foremost

Where most sailing catamarans, with their booms six meters from the surface of the water and their heavy steering and transmission often rely on the engine, the Bali Catsmart retains the spirit of a monohull, a real sailboat.

With a boom passing close to the roof, the sail’s center of effort is lowered. The mainsail remains easily accessible, and it’s always wise to be able to intervene safely. The boat is piloted from two helm stations aft, from where you can easily see what’s happening with the sails. The mainsheet runs behind the helmsman and each helm station has two winches plus a third behind the starboard helmsman.

The boat is light (8.4 tons when empty), with a weight comparable to that of an Excess 11, and carries just as much sail area as its standard version, 76m2. At the front there is an overlapping genoa, a more powerful sail than the self-tacking jib found on many catamarans.

Bali Catsmart, still a Bali!

The Catsmart features the well-known Bali catamaran pivoting rear door. This door makes it possible to close the salon and cockpit area to the elements, or to open it for open air dining and lounging. The side windows can also be opened, which allows this  interior space to be very versatile. An “all open” version allows for easy air circulation and connection with nature, while the closed side windows and rear door create a more intimate and protected atmosphere.

The front of the salon is occupied by the kitchen, which takes up the full width. A beautiful kitchen facing the sea, what better way to attract a volunteer to take care of cooking? The shipyard video is particularly successful at demonstrating how this well-thought-out kitchen is used. With four burners and a gas oven, we’re all set for large meals.

Another Bali feature is the solid decked bow, which makes space for a very large sunbathing area measuring 16m2, which converts into a small front seating area with a table. The design foregos a front salon door, which would have greatly reduced the size of the galley, but the front outdoor dining area remains and provides a second location for lunch, ideal for having breakfast.

The stern across the full width of the boat, which becomes more usable when the dinghy is launched, contributes to the  to creating the 66 square meters of living space on this 38-foot catamaran. Space is an asset on Bali catamarans, even for smaller models!

Choose your amenities

The Bali Catsmart is available in 2-, 3- or 4-cabin layout versions.  In each of the available versions, the guest cabins have access to a practical, well-arranged bathroom with a separate shower.

With our most popular Dream Guarantee ownership program, we offer the 4-cabin/2-head version, which is most requested by bareboat customers. In this version, the two cabins of each hull share a common bathroom. The rear cabins are a little wider than the front cabins, but all of them have a pleasant sea view.

The other versions, which are more intended for owners, include two suites, one per hull, or one owner’s hull and another equipped with two cabins. These facilities are nevertheless available with the Dream Performance ownership program.

Equipped with two 30 HP engines with Dream Yacht (20 as Standard), large water tanks (up to 660 L) and diesel fuel tanks (up to 400 L), the boat can also be equipped with a watermaker, as well as air conditioning, by opting for a generator.

These are features that guarantee self-sufficiency on a cruise for those who don’t like spending their nights in port!

Bali Catsmart, it has all the positives of a larger model!
